More thoughts on AI

I write and talk a lot about generative AI. And as freelance writer and editor, I find myself increasingly targeted to 'get on board or get left behind.' So now seems the right time to make my professional stance clear…

Writing for children

My children turned six recently, and they were given some brilliant books for their birthday.

I'm so excited to see them developing a love for books and reading on their own. I remember that joy so well - the worlds they get to disappear into, the fantastical things they'll learn, and, right now, their pleased little giggle every time they recognise a new word. Hearing them read stories aloud makes my heart sing. It's honestly thrilling to witness, and is renewing my own love for reading, and appreciation for the craft of writing.

More time to live

This is a deeply personal post and comes with a trigger warning for cancer.

Be more Ursula

After a lovely, thought-provoking conversation with a fellow wordsmith yesterday, I was inspired to write this (rare) blog post with my current thoughts about generative AI…

10 years of copywriting

LinkedIn recently told me I took the leap from employee to freelancer 10 years ago!🎉

After spending 11(ish) years being a strategic, all-round BD and marketing manager for architects and built environment practices, I initially dipped my toe into freelance life as a ‘communications consultant’ …but after a few years I took another leap and focussed in on the bit that matters most to me - words.

International Women's Day 2026

I’m an International Women’s Day skeptic. And I approached it this week with extra trepidation – would the International Women’s Day website (not affiliated to the UN) finally read the room this year, of all years?

A small rant from a working parent

A small rant from a working parent

I’m trying to write more here about issues that affect me and my profession, without alienating potential clients with rants about, well, the patriarchy usually. (Why yes, I *am* a Gen X intersectional feminist stereotype!) So this morning’s rage is for all the working parents out there.

What I see when I see this photo

Lately I’ve been experimenting with different types of writing and seeing and reading and thinking. So this might be the first in a series of posts… possibly. Or it might be a ‘felt cute might delete later’ sort of thing…

Getting offline for the summer

July 29, 2025

I’m getting offline for the summer holidays! For a social media detox, a change of perspective… and to focus on splitting my time between work and my wonderful little whirlwinds.

The Storytelling Manual for Architects

I’ve been dipping into Juliette Mitchell’s new book The Storytelling Manual for Architects. But it turns out I’m not very good at writing book reviews and I got quite stuck. So I asked my dad for tips (he writes a lot of reviews) and he told me to make it personal. Here goes.
