Happy new year šŸ„³

Wishing a happy new year to friends, colleagues and clients - I hope this year brings you every success, happiness and peace.

Iā€™m back at my desk today - reflecting on the past year and planning the year ahead. So for accountability, Iā€™ve written down a few honest reflections and intentionsā€¦

1. Iā€™m terrible at marketing myself on LinkedIn (or anywhere else) and I doubt thatā€™ll change. I enjoy cheering on the people I care about, so I plan to keep doing that instead.

2. This time last year I went to great effort to update my online portfolio and received some wonderful client testimonialsā€¦ I did nothing with them (see aboveā˜) and my portfolio is still a couple of years out of date. Thank you to the clients who took the time to write kind words for me - I WILL update my portfolio sometime this year.

3. However, I *did* refine my service offering last year (hello copywriting, goodbye everything else), which hugely improved my prospects and resulted in probably my most successful professional freelance year, yay me! (Not financially successful, see last pointšŸ‘‡)

4. I am so grateful to be living the freelance dream of supporting my family by working with kind, principled and talented people - some new to me, some Iā€™ve known for many years.

5. Since becoming a parent my priorities (and location) have shifted quite dramatically and I realised this year that I need to be more open about that. So in case you didnā€™t already know, Iā€™m mum to young twins and we live in the beautiful South Wales valleys. I work mostly remotely, mostly around school term times. This limits the work I take on, but allows me to focus on what Iā€™m best at.

Somehow 2024 marks my 21st year working in marketing communications for the built environment. Onwards!

Pic of my family taken last October at our favourite local beach, Southerndown. Excellent for fossiling and bracing cliff top walks.
